Measurement of various angles, lengths and dimensions composing beautiful nose of Korean women is helpful not only to define ideal nasal contour, but also to fabricate implants for augmentation rhinoplasty which is popular in recent esthetic surgical fields.
We renewed naso-frontal angle and the fact that classical bony nasion is differenct from clinical nasion of soft tissue. We newly defined point "M" as bony maximum convexity between nose and forehead, and measured the distance from point "M" to classical bony nasion, height, width and roof angle on nasal root, and fronto-nasal angle in 30 female cadaver skulls ranging in age from 18 to 30 years.
Also we measured and computed various ansal length, angle and index in 50 beautiful Korean women ranging in age from 18 to 30 years.
We obtained following results:
A. Anatomical measurement is cadaver skull
1. Mean of distance between point "M" & classical nasion was 7.7 mm.
2. Mean of nasal root height was 5.4 mm.
3. Mean of nasal root width was 12.8 mm.
4. Mean of angle of nasal roof at nasal root (Φ₁) was 100.0 degree.
5. Mean of fronto-nasal angle was 128.2 degree.
B. Somatometric measurement in beautiful women
1. Mean of distance between point "M" and nasal tip was 41.4 mm,
mean of nasal root height was 6.2 mm,
mean of nasal root width was 25.6 mm,
mean of intercathal distance was 34.6 mm,
mean of height of nose on margin of piriform aperture was 14.0 mm,
mean of columella height was 16.8 mm,
mean of alar width was 35.0 mm.
2. Mean of angle of nasal roof was 96.9 degree at nasal root(Φ₁) and 84.4 degree at margin of piriform aperture(Φ₂)
3. Mean of fronto-nasal angle was 152.6 degree.
4. Mean of nasal index was 84.7, inferior triangle index was 209.6 and nasocanthal index was 74.5.
